It's that time of the year again....July 7th is the day the Japanese celebrate, Tanabata Festival (Star Festival).
Have you heard of the romantic yet melancholic story of Hikoboshi and Orihime? The Tanabata Festival is a tradition that has been celebrated based on the folklore of Prince Hikoboshi and Princess Orihime.
Japanese write their wishes on a small rectangular paper and decorate the bamboo tree with them. On the 7th day of July, they burn the bamboo to hope for their wishes to come true.

七夕の”たなばた”の語源は古く、古事記や日本書紀、万葉集で詠まれています。
奈良時代ころに大陸から伝わった行事と、日本にすでに存在した棚機津女（たなばたつめ）
伝説とが混ざり合ったとされています。
日本では旧暦の時代にお盆の関連行事として七夕が行われてきたようですが、明治の時代となって新暦を取り入れたことにより、
旧暦7月15日前後であったお盆の時期が新暦8月15日前後に移ったことにより、
七夕とお盆の関係が薄れたそうです。
七夕の日は全国的には7月7日ですが、七夕祭りで有名な宮城県仙台市、
北海道の大部分では七夕は8月7日、
愛知県安城市の七夕祭りは毎年8月第1週の金・土・日におこなわれています。
